Gregor Amadeus Mayrhofer has established an international reputation as both conductor and composer and has been Artistic Director of the HIDALGO Festival since 2024. Following his studies at The Juilliard School with Alan Gilbert, he served as assistant to Sir Simon Rattle and Kirill Petrenko at the Berliner Philharmoniker. In 2026, he received the OPUS KLASSIK “Innovation Award for Sustainability” for the recording of his Recycling Concerto with Vivi Vassileva and the SWR Symphonieorchester.

In the 2026/27 season, Mayrhofer makes debuts with the Thailand Philharmonic and the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra and returns to Het Collectief at the Festival de Besançon and Ensemble Kontraste in Nuremberg. Together with Harald Lesch, he also revives his composition Tipping Points, originally commissioned by the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Recent highlights include engagements with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Prague Radio Orchestra, Philharmonie Zuidnederland, Nürnberger Symphoniker and Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, as well as his London debut at the Barbican Centre with Britten Sinfonia.

Mayrhofer has conducted orchestras including Staatskapelle Berlin, Bayerisches Staatsorchester, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, MusicAeterna at the Salzburg Festival, Slovenian Philharmonic and Belgrade Philharmonic, with regular re-invitations from the SWR Symphonieorchester, Bamberger Symphoniker, Münchner Symphoniker, Münchener Kammerorchester and Musikkollegium Winterthur.

As a composer, he has received commissions from institutions including the Bayerische Staatsoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Münchener Biennale, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Staatsoper Hannover. His works have been performed by orchestras including the hr-Sinfonieorchester, Dresdner Philharmonie and Residentie Orkest The Hague.

Mayrhofer studied in New York, Paris, Düsseldorf and Munich and also performs as a jazz pianist.
