Sébastien Rouland

Since the 2018/19 season, Sébastien Rouland has served as General Music Director of the Saarländisches Staatstheater. His repertoire spans from historically informed Baroque performance to contemporary music. In opera, he has recently conducted Werther in Prague, Les pêcheurs de perles in Munich, Massenet’s Hérodiade in Düsseldorf, and Les contes d’Hoffmann in Gothenburg.
He has also appeared in major houses in Berlin, Hamburg, Paris, Vienna, Copenhagen, Tokyo, and Mexico City.

Rouland has led esteemed orchestras such as the Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe, Essen Philharmonic, Camerata Zürich, Les Musiciens du Louvre, and the Luxembourg Philharmonic. This season includes guest appearances for Le nozze di Figaro in Biel/Solothurn and Faust at the Prague National Theatre, as well as concerts with the Poznań Philharmonic.

DVD recordings of his productions include La vie parisienne (Opéra de Lyon) and Le postillon de Lonjumeau (Opéra Comique, Paris), as well as Lecocq’s La fille de Madame Angot. At the Saarländisches Staatstheater, he has led acclaimed productions of Guillaume Tell, Faust, Don Carlos, La Forza del Destino, Il Trovatore, Carmen, Il trittico, Tristan und Isolde, Das Rheingold, and Die Walküre. In addition he has also toured with the Saarländisches Staatsorchester, notably with Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Opéra Royal de Versailles.
