German-Italian lyric baritone Giacomo Schmidt discovered his passion for singing at a young age, performing in children’s choirs such as the Kinderchor des Schleswig-Holsteinischen Landestheater. His solo debut came in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with the Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester. He studied voice at HfMT Köln and UdK Berlin and is currently a member of the Opera Academy at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen.

A dedicated interpreter of Lied, he was a scholarship holder at the Liedakademie Heidelberger Frühling, mentored by Thomas Hampson, and performed at Pierre Boulez Saal and Neuland Lied Festival. His artistry has been shaped by masterclasses with Elly Ameling and Hans Eijsackers.

On stage, he has performed José Castro (La Fanciulla del West, Opera Hedeland) and appeared as Papageno and Conte di Almaviva with operationderkuenste. His work in children’s opera includes Hänsel und Gretel (Taschenoper Lübeck, Rheingau Musik Festival, Lucerne Festival).

Alongside pianist Jong Sun Woo, he recently won top prizes at Hugo Wolf Competition Stuttgart, Schubert Competition Dortmund, and IVC ‘s-Hertogenbosch, establishing himself as a rising talent in both opera and Lied.
