With a warm, dark-hued, and wide-ranging voice, German soprano Sophie Klußmann is acclaimed for her versatility across opera, concert, and song. Her repertoire spans from the Renaissance to contemporary music, and she is in demand worldwide for her expressive artistry and commanding stage presence.
Recent highlights include a world tour of Mozart concert arias with Martin Haselböck and the Wiener Akademie, and collaborations with the Scharoun Ensemble Berlin, pianist Oliver Triendl, and numerous leading conductors such as Vladimir Jurowski, Christoph Eschenbach, Marek Janowski, Ingo Metzmacher, and Helmuth Rilling.
A graduate of Detmold and Cologne, Sophie Klußmann’s mentors include Thomas Quasthoff and Margreet Honig. She began her career as a member of Halle Opera, singing roles such as Pamina, Cherubino, Nannetta, and Dorinda. She also premiered two operas by Christian Jost at the Komische Oper Berlin.
Her international engagements have taken her to the Baden-Baden Easter Festival, where she covered Anna Netrebko, to China for her debut as Micaëla (Carmen), and to theatres across Europe. A long-term collaboration with John Malkovich led to appearances in The Giacomo Variations and The Infernal Comedy on world tour. Recent opera highlights include Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Kurfürstin (Der Vogelhändler), and Hanna Glawari (The Merry Widow).
An avid recitalist, Sophie performs at festivals in Germany, Finland, Hong Kong, and the Netherlands. Her recordings appear on Capriccio, Harmonia Mundi, Hänssler Classics, naïve, and Odradek, featuring works by Karl Weigl, Grete von Zieritz, Brahms, Webern, and Kurtág.
She has sung with major orchestras including the RSO Berlin, DSO Berlin, SWR Symphony, and Budapest Festival Orchestra, and has performed in leading halls from Berlin and Vienna to New York and Beijing. Since 2023, Sophie Klußmann has held a lectureship in classical singing at the University of the Arts Berlin.
